Yes. Hosting a game, joining with a code, the four free word packs, sabotages, team mode and a steal each cost nothing, and no account is required to play — a free night runs up to 3 rounds with up to 4 players. Spellmates Plus is optional and unlocks every word pack, brutal and mixed difficulty, longer games, bigger rooms, wagers and the drinking mode.

How many people can play?

Two to four players for free, and up to 100 with Spellmates Plus — enough for an office party. One shared screen is the board and everyone else plays on their own phone.

Do we need to download an app?

No. Spellmates runs entirely in the browser — players scan the QR code or type the 4-letter room code.

Can we play online or over a video call?

Yes. Share the host screen on a video call and everyone joins from wherever they are with the same room code.

Does it work on a TV?

Yes. Cast or AirPlay the host tab to a TV and use it as the game board while phones act as controllers.

What languages are supported?

Spellmates plays in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Korean, Japanese, Urdu, with words, definitions and example sentences in each.
